The BellRays don't need to explain, justify or proselytize themselves to anyone, and here's why: in a music market saturated with new-young-next-big-things that sound like so-and-so and have blog shelf lives that are too often like roadside fireworks (cheap, bright and short lived), The BellRays exist in their own dominion. They define and exemplify what's timeless, what's passionate, and what's real about playing music, and they have done it with a singular sense of devotion, innovation and skill that's undeniably remarkable since the early '90s. Nobody sounds like The BellRays, and The BellRays have never before sounded exactly like they do on Hard, Sweet & Sticky, an album titled thusly because guitarist and songwriter Bob Vennum wanted to encapsulate what the band's new songs were all about.
NewsIt was really only a matter of time before the most twisted, repressed sons-of-criminals ever kicked out of England, The Australian Music Press, would discover the blood-drenched, gore-clotted San Diego Blast-punkers of Sirhan Sirhan. Australian Rolling Stone (which is just like American Rolling Stone except for being printed upside-down) gives Sirhan Sirhan's debut album "Blood" 3.5 stars and says, " Great punk rock provides various visceral thrills and inspires revolution and Sirhan Sirhan ticks the first box in blood with tracks such as 'Remove My Eyes' and 'Rise'." The Aussie magazine, People (which is apparently not at all like the American magazine of the same name due to it's not including any photos of Heidi Montag) was also caught gushing about our boys, "...this dirty, punked-up gear mixes spazzed out weirdness with the sort of senseless aggression that sees inbred dogs put to sleep." Here Here! Catch Sirhan Sirhan on tour right about now with The Arcons! Senseless Aggression
As you well know, our boys The Vox Jaguars have been on a tear lately. Zooming up the CMJ and Commercial Specialty Radio charts, packing the young miscreants of Santa Cruz into wild, sweaty shows and charming the panties off of music writers who keep comparing singer, Jordy Topf to a young Mick Jagger. Expect to see some west coast tour dates from these boys this summer. Godlike, Yet Waifish
Wow, sucks to be a legendary, late-seventies punk icon when you have to get up on stage and follow the ferocious, nuclear-powered, whip-ass generator that is The BellRays. Seriously now, we love the Damned and chances are that these shows will be some of the best live performances you will ever see since anyone who dares to attempt to play after the Mighty BellRays had better be bringing their A-game....and "New Rose" is just some sweet classic stuff, so we're certain that The Damned boys will be ok but still..
Buy tickets soon because we're thinking that each and every one of these shows will be some Ali-Frazier, Thrilla In Manilla type shit.
Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee..
Little Brazil's magnum opus album "Son" is like, totally killing it. Sailing into the CMJ Top 50, as though on a magic carpet, this 10 song, concept album about a young family's trials and tribulations is fast becoming a staple of fans, DJ's and music magazines alike. Alternative Press urged readers of it's blog to buy this album at once, giving "Son" 5.5 stars and saying, "I highly highly recommend this record." Meanwhile the old battle-axes at the venerable Billboard even laid singer Landon Hedges side-by-side with Omaha brethren Conor Oberst and Tim Kasher. It would seem that there is nothing that could knock Little Brazil off it's stride. High Fives
KCMO's The Architects are buying underwear and socks by the case in preparation for the 2009 Vans Warped Tour which begins June 22 in Pomona, CA and finishes August 23 in Los Angeles, CA. Check the tour dates here and check out www.warpedtour.com for details and tickets. Another state of mind...
The prestigious, RCRDLBL website has embraced the Obamian mantle of "change" by reaching far across the aisle and elevating our most exalted, high potentates of epic, garage raunch, The Vox Jaguars to new levels of head-ringing with some truly bipartisan streaming songs. It's morning in America again, son. RCRD LBL
Omaha's indie rock purveyors LITTLE BRAZIL have set a March 24th release date for their third album, and first for Anodyne Records, simply titled Son. Recorded at ARC Studios in Omaha with AJ Mogis (Cursive, Bright Eyes, The Faint, Tilly & The Wall, Rilo Kiley), Son boasts 10 deep, layered narratives that tackle topics such as divorce, adultery, custody battles, parental ali enation, abandonment, suicide, and the search of self-affirmation told from a child's perspective.
Son is a ten-song book; Half fiction, half non-fiction, states vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Landon Hedges. The album is a story loosely based on a man and woman who meet, marry, struggle, fight, have a son, resulting in divorce and a custody battle. In the end, the wife commits suicide, but I don't want to give it all away. Hedges continues, The album is filled with topics that I feel many people have to deal with in life. Some of the story line is personal, as I was dealing with almost losing a close family member to cancer, but I focused on telling a story with this album, and although it was tough to tackle, we are all very proud of the end result.
Building anticipation for the release, Little Brazil stopped by the Futureappletree studio last fall to record three new cuts for Daytrotter.com. Fans can check out the exclusive performances here: http://www.daytrotter.com/article/1457/little-brazil
Anxious fans on the West Coast will be happy to hear that Little Brazil will hit the highway on a four-week tour which include dates with Cursive and Ladyfinger(ne). See all dates below. In the past, Little Brazil has shared the stage with many indie vets, such as Tegan & Sara, Nada Surf, The Appleseed Cast, The Go! Team, Grant Hart (Husker Du), and Black Kids, to name a few.
After playing guitar in Conor Oberst's Desaparacidos, and Tim Kasher's The Good Life, Hedges founded Little Brazil in 2002, and solidified the line up in 2004, joined by guitarist Greg Edds, bassist Danny Maxwell, and drummer Oliver Morgan.

Good Midwestern boys emerge from ARC Studios with a great record and hit the road.
Anodyne Announces 3/24/09 release date!
November 7th, 2008 Anodyne Records, the Midwestern home to such indie luminaries as The Meat Puppets, The BellRays and Roman Numerals is proud, pleased and honored to announce that Omaha's catchiest band of the last five years- Little Brazil- has agreed to let us release their newest opus, "Son" a sort-of concept album organized around the travails of dysfunctional families.
Landon Hedges, Gregory Edds, Oliver Morgan and Daniel Maxwell entered Lincoln, NE's world-famous ARC Studios early last month with producer AJ Mogis (Cursive, Bright Eyes, The Faint, Criteria, Tilly & The Wall, Rilo Kiley) to document what are easily the finest batch of songs to date from the hard working, hard touring Little Brazil to say nothing of the project's ambitious nature being carried off so elegantly.
Landon & Greg add, "This album was not necessarily written to raise concern, or a certain feeling or emotion, but more as a general understanding of the anatomy that is a family, drawn from four individuals personal experiences".
"Initially, some of the songs were written about my own family prior to the birth of the album's concept; as where other songs came about through fictional storytelling".
"It is our Son".
Some of the songs in this track list will be recognizable to fans who have heard Little Brazil's fantastic live-in-the-studio session with Daytrotter.com:
1. Brighton Beach
2. What's The Problem
3. Son
4. Wasting Time
5. Nicholas
6. Perfection
7. Wanna Go Home
8. Separated
9. Wedding Glass
10. Gold
Look for Little Brazil's "Son" to be delivered by Anodyne Records March 24th 2009

Sirhan Sirhan's brutal debut, "Blood" has won Best Hard Rock Album at the San Diego Music Awards!! Congrats, Boys! SDMA
On Behalf of Anodyne Records and The mighty BellRays, we are both pleased and honored to bring you- in many formats, across many platforms and with all appropriate pomp and circumstance- The BellRays video for their single ?Infection?!
The single, ?Infection? is a perfect distillation of the classic ?lust-leads-heart-down-a-painful-path? theme in every sense. From the bumping, grinding, shimmy-shaking rhythm-and-bruise backing track to the nuanced cooing, growling and near shrieking of Lisa Kekaula?s lead vocal. (to say nothing of the damn-near Hendrixian shred-fest guitar solo!) Naturally, the thing to do here was to make a video in which a giant fuzzy bear engages a giant fuzzy eagle in a breakdance battle before wooing and winning the heart of still another giant fuzzy bear.

The Vox Jaguars wryly romantic lyrics and lusty dance floor tempos will transport you to the most righteous basement parties of your youth- when we were all spitting our ADD meds into the toilet and sneaking out the kitchen door to get loaded on box-wine, suck face and be awash in music that informed the urgency of our shared adventure. The Vox Jaguars musical DNA bears traces of the epic teen-raunch rock and roll genes of The Troggs & The Standells passed through the lineages of Bowie & Bolan, recapitulated by The Verve and Blur and then seeded and sown into the soil of present-day Santa Cruz by The Yeah Yeah Yeah?s.
Look for the as-of-yet untitled debut EP from the Vox Jaguars in early 2009 on Anodyne Records.

Architects, 'Vice' (Anodyne)
Midwestern punks take their badass riffage on the lam.
BY CHUCK EDDY 05.15.08 12:04 PM
These meat-and-potatoes Missourians spend their third album returning to the scene of the crime: murders on the Jersey Shore, outlaws in Oklahoma, Salinas jailbirds' daughters on the lam, MILFs seducing future MFAs in Orange County. They wear black and carry guns like Dad did, but so do the crooked cops. Their riffs aim for Angus Young as their shouting shoots for BTO and the Clash and Hüsker Dü. And if the vocals are mixed too low to keep the choruses consistently rousing, energy and emotion buoy the barrage regardless.

A local label is often nothing more than a clever name that some unsigned band slapped on the back of its self-released CD. Not so Anodyne. For years, it was hard to tell just what Anodyne was doing outside of the immediate area, but now this little imprint has made its mark, thanks not only to owner John Hulston's organized ambition but also to one major factor: distro. Our ultimate party: We're headed out to visit a friend in Brooklyn. We take a few shots of Grand Marnier, and in our jacket pocket is this CD from a Kansas City band that was repeating on our iPod the whole flight over Click here to read more.
The Architects don't stop. Because nobody can stop them -- not indifferent music-industry lackeys and not a teenage American market enamored of black bangs and screamo. The Architects will still play a limited Warped Tour run, open for Rancid, headline at tiny KC venues and hold four-hour rehearsals several times a week so that every show they put on is an exercise in jackhammering the shit out of rock and roll's front porch and trampling its rose bed. We've got some photos posted over on the Architects band page. More pics from other bands, mp3's, and videos coming soon. Click here to see the pictures.
